San Francisco project
Film adaptation of Yuri Zhukov’s piece
With Time We Go
Directed by Emma Rubinowitz.

EMMA RUBINOWITZ
DIRECTOR
Picture
Emma Rubinowitz is a freelance dancer and choreographer based in the San Francisco. After growing up in the Bay Area, she went on to dance with San Francisco Ballet for eight seasons. She then decided leave the company and pursue a career in a new field, while continuing her involvement in the arts community.

Emma began choreographing during her time at San Francisco Ballet, creating several short works including a music video titled “You Don’t Own Me” which was nominated for best short film at the San Francisco Dance Film Festival. Emma finds joy in creating dance and collaborating with other artists. She also created a new piece, 'porous' that was featured in Art to Action 2021, ACC first film series.

Emma is an avid environmentalist. She believes we can create better solutions for sustainability within our communities. She looks forward to working on this film project, and to helping the ACC spread awareness throughout the dance community and beyond.
This work was originally choreographed on Emma when she was 15 years old. The piece is about the cycle of life and coming of age. It has been an interesting experience to revisit it as an adult and pass it on to another generation. As a filmmaker, she tried to honor the work through the eyes of the camera. The piece itself is not about climate change but to me it is a reminder of why we fight for the environment; it's not for us, it's for future generations who will live with the consequences of our actions today.
